But it was her brother, DJ SteveBass, spinning house tracks on a Barbie turntable and a transistor radio that planted the seed.
Her love for house music fully took root in 1984 when she stepped into the legendary Club Zanzibar. Tony Humphries was on the decks that night—and from the very first track, she was hooked. “It touched my soul,” she says. “Sometimes I hear a song and get goosebumps. It’s like I go somewhere else… and I don’t want to come back.”
That kind of soul-deep connection to music defines DJ Sodé’s style. Her sets are filled with beautiful, sexy, deeply emotional house music—curated with an ear for detail and a heart for sound. “I listen for the horns, the violins, the guitar,” she explains. “I want it to feel like escape—like the most beautiful sound you’ve ever heard.”
Her musical inspirations include Jill Scott, D’Angelo, and Prince—artists who, like Sodé, create beauty with intention. She credits DJs like Tony Humphries, Timmy Regisford, and Larry Patterson as influences who shaped her ear and refined her high standards. “It’s not that I don’t like other DJs,” she laughs. “I just know what I like.”
