Underground Revival NYC: Spotlight on a Duo Keeping the Groove Sacred

House music may have been born in Chicago, but its spirit found a sacred home in New York City’s underground. Few embody that legacy more faithfully than Underground Revival NYC (URNYC)—a DJ and production duo made up of two seasoned selectors with roots deep in the scene.

Who Is URNYC?

Founded in the 1990s, URNYC was born of a friendship sparked at the legendary Sound Factory Bar during the early days of the Underground Network party—hosted by Queen Diva Barbara Tucker and promoter Don Welch, with Louie Vega on the decks. Both DJs were regulars at the party and eventually became promoters alongside the award-winning Robbi the Promoter.

They bonded over a love of deep and soulful house music and the belief that the dancefloor was a space for healing, freedom, and spiritual connection. That ethos became the foundation of URNYC.

Veteran DJs, Lifelong Revivalists

Their journey has taken them through some of the most respected spaces in the culture:

  • NYC Clubs & Venues: Wetlands, Mars, Together and Spirit Party, Club Cheetah (formerly Sound Factory Bar)

  • Radio: Panik System (Fordham University)hosted by Sir Panik, NYU’s Candy Shop hosted by T.O. Sweets, CJLO Montreal with Michael Terzian

  • Montreal Residencies: Salon Daomé, Tapis Rouge, Academy, Got Soul Café events, and Cars & Coffee with Jojo Flores

Whether spinning in basements or clubs, over FM airwaves or internet streams, URNYC’s legacy is defined by consistency, connection, and community.

Producers, Too

While URNYC has just one official release to date—a 2012 remix titled “We Are the Stars (Underground Revival Remix)” available on Traxsource—they’ve got a vault packed with unreleased tracks, edits, and demos waiting to see the light of day.

2025 will bring that material front and center with:

  • The upcoming Soul Revival monthly YouTube livestream series

  • New merch on Abusia.Store

  • Exclusive releases and archival drops for true heads

The Abusia Radio Connection

Their weekly Abusia Radio show One Shot airs every Saturday at 3PM ET and has quickly become a spiritual checkpoint for house heads around the world.

On each episode of One Shot, URNYC delivers a raw and intentional selection across:

  • Soulful House

  • Afro House
