I started listening to Abusia Radio today. OMG I love it! My body jus moves to the beat . I love the different types of music. Never boring. I have found a new home for music.
Thank u Abusia Radio!
Our Community clubs, and record stores of old used to be a kind of “church” for all music lovers.
It was not just a place where folks danced to and/or purchased music. It was a safe haven where dancers, producers, and presenters of Dance Music could converse and fellowship with one another. Whether people came for the latest news, recommendations on current hot picks, industry apparel, promo for the best parties, or simply appreciation for music…they embraced this important place for our community.
With the evolution of club culture of digital music platforms, traditional spaces and record shops have closed their doors. And, the COVID-19 pandemic has robbed us of our communal dance spaces.
With that great loss, the “church that House built” was lost too. Abusia radio re-establishes this meeting place for Dance Music Lovers, by offering an ONLINE, 24hr musical experience. We are reviving a much needed home away from home with all the best parts of the club and record shop experience.
Abusia radio also plays many vinyl B-sides and rare grooves that one cannot find on streaming services. This exposes listeners to impactful, but seldom-played works of art, while expanding the historical record and level of exposure for deep cuts.
Our core audience is as diverse as the many fans and types of Dance music.
We thrive on catering to audiences that are interested in a Black-owned artists’ space, where music is curated to reflect, not only modern Dance and Electronic Dance Music styles, but also the Funk, Soul, Disco, and Gospel from which they derive. Our audience is interested in the story of Black Dance music, and seeks out the hottest and latest, while coveting the classic and the rare. This, of course, includes Dance music’s casual listeners, dancers, connoisseurs, DJ’s, and anyone that would call themselves a House-Head.
Kwabena John, Josh Thomas, and Datchka Vilmé are the founders of Abusia radio.
With over 90 combined years of DJ’ing, producing, and the promotion of Dance music between them, they are in a unique position to curate the kind of experience that makes Abusia Radio stand so far out.
They are dedicated to the perpetuation of Dance Music culture; including, but not limited to just the music & the djays. Abusia Radio’s upcoming programming will grow to also include breaking industry news, relevant community discussions, and rare interviews with the innovators of and performers in Dance music.
As a Black-owned and run establishment, Abusia Radio recognizes that behind every track is a story that the station is invested in exposing to its audience.
This story acknowledges the Black roots of Dance music, while embracing the entire global community that has come along for the ride.
The right genre at the right time. I cannot tell you how hard it is to find classic house. Because no one knows what that really is. Abusia hits it right on the nail. I haven’t skipped a song yet. I love it so much!!!
